The best bad thing

I can’t help it, I like to feel wanted
To be wanted because of what I am
Because of how I behave
Because of how I make her feel
Not for what I could become
Or for what I’m capable to give
…but what am I?
…who am I really?
I’m afraid I haven’t figured that out yet
So neither can she be sure of me
But if I had to describe myself
I’m a moment, a smile, a pause in time
A mirage in the journey of life
I’m a coffee break at 3pm
Nothing more but nothing less
I’m a recreational Saturday in a long week
Or a stay home night watching Netflix
I’m not the perfect guy like she thought
I was just the perfect right-now
The sweet that turns sour with time
The adorable pet that given the chance
Will run away and never look back
So you see…
I’m responsible for the character I play
But she is responsible for staying
My necessity for pleasing others
And my lack of ability for saying NO
Keeps me here, chained to a commitment
We are life supporting a relationship
Extending the inevitable
She’s daydreaming that it will work
And I’m trying to wake her up
Without hurting her too much
For you, reading this tragedy
And if it’s not yet too late
Learn to enjoy the little things
For what they are, not what will be
Learn when to say good-bye
It’s better to leave with a smile
